Home Improvement Guide: Tips From an HVAC Expert
With summer now in full swing, heating and cooling HVAC expert Hot & Cold HVAC has decided to share useful tips on how to keep heating and cooling units running at their peak performance.
Get a tune-up twice a year
There are a great many moving parts on HVAC units. So before the summertime hits, make sure that you have a tune-up done, and, also have one done in the fall. There are components in these furnaces that must be checked thoroughly to make sure they are clean, and that they are operating as they should at the recommended safety levels.
Find a comfort number
To help keep your HVAC unit working as efficiently as possible, especially in winter and summer, in addition to avoiding energy waste, choose a “comfort number” and try to remain as close to that as possible, rather than setting a significantly different level in order to change the temperature faster. As a rule of thumb, find a comfort number and stay within 2 degrees, one way or the other. As you do not want to strain the unit, especially on hot summer days.
Change filters
Homeowners must change air filters regularly in order to keep dust and other debris out of their HVAC units and ducts. Doing this is one of the easiest things any homeowner can do, to ensure the unit is working at 100% capacity and efficiency.
Check carbon monoxide detectors
Most homeowners already have a carbon monoxide detector, if not get one and make sure you know where to place them and when to check them. Detectors are what measure the levels of harmful carbon monoxide that are deadly. And should be placed near or as close to a vent as possible. Homeowners should also remember to check the expiration dates on their units.
