AC Installation Tips

Common AC Installation Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Are you looking to perform an AC installation yourself? If so, this job is tougher than it looks. So if you are wondering, how tough, the best way to answer that question is by first discussing some of the mistakes that are often made.

Choosing a Wrongly-sized AC Unit

Perhaps the most common mistake is choosing the wrongly-sized unit. Doing this can result in substantial energy efficiency issues, and even to short cycling.

Before you choose an AC unit, you first need to be sure it is big enough to accommodate your home but not too big. To do this, use a BTU calculator. Enter the dimensions of each room and find out how many BTUs it will need.

Then, look for a system that is designed to produce that same number of BTUs. If you need any help, call your local air conditioning company. As they can measure your home and find an appropriate system for you.

Incorrectly Positioning Thermostats

You may not realize it, but thermostats must be positioned strategically. If they are not in the right position, temperature inconsistencies can crop up, and air conditioners will often fail to perform as they should.

First and foremost, keep your thermostat out of sunlight. As this can trigger temperature inaccuracies, which results in your AC producing incorrect temperatures in your home.

Incorrectly Positioning the AC Unit

Just as ta thermostat can be positioned incorrectly, so too can the unit. If the unit is placed poorly, energy efficiency and functionality issues will start to arise.

So, where to place it? It needs to be in a shaded area where it is very rarely exposed to direct sunlight. Most condensers can be found under the awnings of homes for this very reason.
